"I want to say that I was “blown away” by the work you did on Module 1 – this is the first time I have seen the finished product and I can say honestly that “I have been to the mountain and seen the promised land!” Your work made our content come to life – I learned from what you did and I love the enhancements you made to increase the level of learning.""

1. Successful Whole Systems Design - Skywalk
Course: Whole Systems Design
Authors: Miriam Grace and Sandra Jeffcoat, Sr. Architects, major Fortune 500 Company
Instructional Design, Writing, Articulate Production (graphics, audio, animation, text): Ellen Brodsky
The Challenge
This course is about Whole Systems Design, the practice of taking into consideration all possible influences on a system and the interplay among those influences as an approach to designing successful systems. The course authors wanted to include an amazing Whole Systems Design case study about the Skywalk at the Grand Canyon, but the photos they had selected would have cost us a fortune to license, and the visual impact of the Skywalk was crucial to the impact power of this lesson.
The Result
I was able to contact the Hualapai Tribe, the owners of the Skywalk, and work with them to revise our narration to their satisfaction. They then gave us permission to use several beautiful photos of the Skywalk for free.

2. Design Disaster in Bali
Course:Whole Systems Design
Authors: Miriam Grace and Sandra Jeffcoat, Sr. Architects, major Fortune 500 company
Instructional Design, Graphic Design, Articulate Engage Interaction: Ellen Brodsky
The Challenge
The authors provided a one-slide bulleted list with some narration describing this very dramatic case study.
The Result
The Articulate Timeline interaction, with appropriate photographs, helped me to dramatize this powerful story, bringing home the point that designers must be extremely careful to gather information about everything that might affect a system, including cultural elements, before moving ahead.

3. Key Business Concepts
Course: Business Strategy Rationalization and Development
Authors: Gail Zhou, VP, Business Architecture, major Fortune 500 company
Instructional Design, Graphic Design, Articulate Engage Interaction: Ellen Brodsky
The Challenge
We started with a dry list of 9 vocabulary phrases and their definitions. These key concepts will help IT architects to better communicate with and understand the challenges of their business partners.
The Result
The Articulate Labeled Graphic Interaction allowed us to present these key concepts in an engaging format. A side benefit is that these images symbolize the concepts well, so we used them repeatedly throughout the module as a visual reinforcement and learning aid.
